Zintle Khobeni

Zintle Khobeni, South Africa, is a human rights activist, Law student at the University of South Africa, and founder of The Great People of South Africa, a women-led non-profit advocating for human rights, gender justice, and the rights of women, girls, LGBTQI+ individuals, and persons with disabilities.

The organization, with the Giving Joy grant will offer a paralegal training program to 20 women, including those with disabilities, with basic legal knowledge. This training will help victims and survivors of gender-based violence and femicide (GBVF) to navigate the criminal justice system. Paralegal training is designed to equip victims and survivors of GBVF with basic legal skills. These skills will help them to be champions against the alarming scourge of GBVF in South Africa. The training will cover the following modules: Basic legal skills, court support skills, quantitative research and policy advocacy skills. The training will take place in the community of Khayelitsha, which is identified as one of the 8 GBVF hotspot in the Cape Town Metro. The 20 trained individuals will pass their skills to 50 more, collectively reaching over 200 survivors
