Fondation Luc Eucariste (FLE)

Fondation Luc Eucariste (FLE) and Coordination des Femme de Bainet (COFAB) is a grassroots organization that aims to strengthen education, agriculture and health services in Bainet, Haiti. They used the Giving Joy grant to purchase parts, employ labor, and repair the community mill that broke a couple of years ago, ensuring the renewed production of flour for the COFAB community. This initiative not only generated income but also provided much-needed food for the community.

The mill parts took over six months to arrive in Haiti due to border closures and flight cancellations. Once the parts finally arrived, the engineer was unable to travel to Bainet, but the community didn’t lose hope. During this time, FLE focused on building the capacity of 40 COFAB members in entrepreneurship, business management, financial management, marketing, and sales.

At least 300 people were impacted by this grant. More than 40 women from COFAB have restarted seed and flour businesses, and over 100 people from six localities—Corail Labbé, Pilon, Berry, Gaussin, and Saurel—are purchasing flour from COFAB businesses.

“The grant truly brought back hope to the community. With a functional the mill, it has propelled the community to keep cultivating their soil, as they can now transform their crops and provide food to their family.” Stated Jean René Bazelais, FLE Co-Founder & President. He added: “The repair of the mill and the training that has been provided constitute pure relief for those living in that region. Work, food, and revenue make a comeback in the whole community of Bainet.”

This is a fantastic example of how one grant’s effects can ripple across families, uplift entire communities and restore hope and joy!
