Rangeen Salam Mahmood

Rangeen Salam Mahmood is the Manager of Radio Dange NWE, a Kurdish community-based radio station. She uses radio programs and spots to reach a broad audience to raise awareness of women’s issues in Kurdistan and Iraq. The Giving Joy grant sponsored four enlightening radio programs and ten impactful radio spots (April-July 2023), focused on challenges faced by women in Halabja and Iraq and advocating for their rights. Radio programs shed light on gender inequality in the workplace, salary disparities and the need for equal opportunities, the importance of education for women and girls, and he role of men in supporting women's rights and fostering gender equality.

The impact of these programs has been truly remarkable. The radio station reaches an estimated 80,000 direct beneficiaries. However, the reach extends far beyond the airwaves, as social media has allowed Rangeen to touch the lives of countless individuals, both present and future.
